One of the common culprits behind a slow computer are unused programs running in the background, using up valuable resources. Take back your PC power by finding the programs slowing you down and getting rid of them, or at least shutting them down. We’ve compiled a few easy steps to help you uninstall those pesky programs slowing you down.

Step 1: Find the Programs Stealing Your Resources
Look for the programs slowing down your computer by right-clicking the taskbar and selecting Start Task Manager. Click the Processes tab, then the CPU column. The programs taking up the most resources should be towards the top of the list. If you see a program that you no longer use, click the End Process button and confirm that you want to shut it down. If that seems to help the issue, remove the program entirely (see Step 2).

Step 2: Remove Unused Programs
Remove programs that you no longer use by opening Settings and choosing Control Panel. Double click the Add/Remove Programs icon and then look for the program you would like to remove. Select the program and click the Remove button. Before removing a program, make sure it isn’t one required to keep your computer running. If you don’t recognize the program, try searching the web for the program name and do a bit of research before uninstalling it.

Step 3: Check for Malware or Spyware
Malware and Spyware might not show up on the list of programs running, but could be slowing down your computer. Make sure you’re using up-to-date antivirus software to keep your PC optimized and running smoothly.
